Cropping to a ratio
Free cropping lets you take any rectangle, which is what you want most of the time. The presets matter when something else dictates the shape: square for profile pictures on most platforms, 16:9 for video thumbnails and slide backgrounds, 4:3 for older displays and many print sizes.
With a ratio selected the selection stays locked to that shape however you drag it, so you cannot accidentally end up at 1:1.02 and have a platform crop the difference off for you.
Cropping is free quality
Unlike resizing, cropping throws nothing away in the part you keep — the pixels inside your selection come through at their original resolution. A crop from a 12-megapixel photo is still full quality, just smaller in area.
That makes cropping the better first move when an image is too large. Cut the parts you do not need, and you may find you never needed to resize or compress at all.

Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never transmitted anywhere, which is why the tool works even if you disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
Does cropping reduce quality?
No. The pixels you keep are unchanged at their original resolution — you are only discarding the area outside the selection. Saving as JPG re-compresses the result, so choose PNG if you need it bit-for-bit faithful.
How do I crop to a perfect square?
Choose Square (1:1) under Shape. The selection then stays square no matter how you drag it.
Can I crop several images at once?
Not in one pass — a crop region is specific to one image, so they are done individually. Use Resize if you need the same dimensions applied to a batch.
Is there a file limit or a paywall?
There is no account, no watermark, and no upload cap. Because your device does the work, the only practical limit is your available memory. The site is funded by ads, not subscriptions.
