    Be clear about what this does

    Converting MP3 to WAV does not improve the audio. MP3 encoding permanently discarded information, and no conversion can work out what it was. What you get is an uncompressed copy of the compressed audio — the same sound, in a much larger file.

    That sounds like a bad deal, and as an upgrade it is. As a compatibility step it is often necessary, which is the real reason to do it.

    When you actually need a WAV

    Audio editors, DAWs and mastering tools prefer uncompressed input, because every edit on a lossy file adds another round of compression damage. Converting once at the start means the editing itself stays clean.

    Hardware is the other case. Samplers, some CDJs, telephone systems, older studio gear, and CD authoring software frequently require WAV and reject anything compressed. Game engines and audio middleware often want uncompressed source too.

    Expect a much larger file

    WAV stores every sample, so the size depends only on length, sample rate and channels — not on the quality of what went in. CD-quality stereo runs at roughly 10 MB per minute regardless of whether the source was 320 kbps or 96 kbps.

    A four-minute track becomes about 40 MB. That is expected, not a fault: it is simply what uncompressed audio costs.

    Are my files uploaded to a server?

    No. The conversion runs inside your browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never transmitted anywhere, which is why the tool works even if you disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

    Will this improve the sound quality?

    No. The detail MP3 removed is gone permanently. A WAV made from an MP3 sounds exactly like the MP3 — it just takes up more space.

    Why is the WAV so much bigger?

    WAV is uncompressed, so its size depends on duration rather than quality — around 10 MB per minute for CD-quality stereo. A 4 MB MP3 becoming a 40 MB WAV is normal.

    Is there a quality setting?

    No, and there cannot be. WAV stores the audio as-is, so there is nothing to trade off. The bitrate control disappears when you choose WAV.

    Is there a file limit or a paywall?
