    People usually search for the specific conversion they need — MOV to MP3, MKV to MP3, AVI to MP3 — but from the tool’s point of view these are the same job. A video file is a container holding separate picture and sound streams, and the container is largely independent of what is inside it.

    This tool reads the container, whatever it is, finds the audio stream and re-encodes it as MP3. Drop in a screen recording, a camcorder file, a downloaded lecture or a phone clip and the process is identical.

    When a conversion fails

    Two things cause almost every failure. The first is a file that is not really a video — a renamed extension, or a partial download that stops halfway. The second is DRM: purchased films and some streaming downloads are deliberately encrypted, and no converter can read them.

    A very long recording can also exhaust the memory a browser tab is allowed. That is more likely on a phone than a laptop, and it shows up as the tab reloading rather than as an error message.

    Picking a bitrate

    192 kbps suits most material and most listeners. Choose 320 kbps for music you care about, and 128 kbps for anything that is mostly speech — a lecture, a podcast, an interview — where the extra data captures room noise rather than detail.

    The source sets the ceiling. Video soundtracks are often encoded at 128 or 160 kbps to begin with, and extracting at 320 kbps cannot add back what was never recorded. It only makes the file larger.

    Are my files uploaded to a server?

    No. The conversion runs inside your browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never transmitted anywhere, which is why the tool works even if you disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

    Will this reduce the audio quality?

    Slightly, in principle — MP3 is a lossy format and the soundtrack was already compressed once. At 192 kbps or above the difference is inaudible to most people on most equipment.
